Bovine Research Australasia
Cutting edge science in the pursuit of producer profitability

We provide research using best research practices including methods developed by the US Federal Drug Administration to provide superior study designs and statistical analysis of data to animal health, agronomical and animal nutrition based companies.

A prime objective is to improve the flow of technical innovation, to implement these innovations and to optimise them to local conditions in an effort to provide immediate and long-term benefits to Australian cattle producers.
The specific services we provide to these companies include contract research, database services and statistical analyses of data.

Contract research
BRA works with major corporations to evaluate and develop innovative cattle production opportunities and assess business development programs and plans. BRA supports and augments the work of Australia's premier public and private sector Research & Development and educational institutions. We also provide mentoring for graduate students conducting cattle research which endeavour to economically improve the health and productivity of cattle. Our contract research work aims to be conducted to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Database services
BRA uses substantial, credible databases and the internet to obtain the latest information on livestock production. Critically, BRA analyses these data using the techniques of evidence-based medicine to produce new understandings of the research. We lead the world on these issues as many of the first analyses of this type published in veterinary and animal science journals were published by our group (see publications), with more analyses currently under way. Our studies have led to new applications of existing technologies to enhance productivity.

Data and statistical analyses

The personnel in BRA have formal training in epidemiology (the study of disease in populations) and statistics in the USA and Australia. The careful use of these methods allows corporations and large producers to make best use of the data by helping them both design and analyse studies to get maximum understanding and benefit. Money is often wasted through poor study design and results are frequently misunderstood through poor analysis. We help companies avoid these problems.
